The Centennial Park: Location, Boundaries, and Attractions
The Centennial Park neighbourhood is located in Etobicoke, Ontario, Cananda. It borders Highway 427 to the east, Pearson International Airport to the north and Centennial Park and the Etobicoke River Valley to the west. This neighbourhood has a rich history with many attractions for residents and visitors alike. The neighbourhood can be accessed from Burnhamthorpe Road (south), Rathburn Road (west) or Royal York Road (east). Some of its attractions are: Akiva Hebrew Academy elementary school, Corpus Christi Church Catholic parish, The Westway Golf Club golf course and Centenary College of Canada college campus.
When was Centennial Park created?
Centennial Park is an important landmark in Etobicoke. The park was created to celebrate Canada’s 100th birthday and the land it now occupies once belonged to a dairy farm. Situated on what was once a municipal dump, it features ski hills that offer intermediate skiing as well as beginner and snowboard slopes. Centennial Park also played host to two major sporting venues for the 2015 Pan Am Games: The Etobicoke Olympian and Centennial Arena.
The Main Attractions of Centennial Park Conservatory
The Centennial Park Conservatory has three main areas. The tropical plants in the main greenhouse bloom year-round and include palms, crotons, gingers, hibiscus orchids, and bromeliads. In addition to fruit trees like banana soursop and papaya, you can also find cacti such as agave opuntia aloe here too. There is a south wing with an arid house that houses unusual succulents including collections of these kinds of plant life as well as changing displays to go along with different seasons outside the park’s boundaries. Lastly, there are local tree shrubs displayed throughout this building which changes every season for your viewing pleasure!
The Centennial Park Conservatory is also home to a variety of animal life including goldfish, turtles, and birds. The outside offers amenities like disc golfing, BMX biking opportunities, as well as more activities for those looking for some sun or just, want to take a stroll through the park’s beauty.
Driving from 405 The West Mall #910, Etobicoke, ON M9C-5J1 to Centennial Park Conservatory located at 151 Elmcrest Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3S2, Canada will get you there if you follow all the instructions below.
Turn left to drive north via The West Mall. You’ll be passing by on your left: Applewood – The Shaver House, located at Applewood – The Shaver House and Chartwell Westbury Long Term Care Residence on your right located at 495 The West Mall, Etobicoke, ON M9C 5S3, Canada. Further down the road you’ll be passing by a Condominium complex at 511 The West Mall. Continue driving straight untill you reach Little Caesars Pizza at 452 Rathburn Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3S8, Canada.
Turn left and head east via Rathburn Rd. You’ll be passing by some churches on either sides. Namely, Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church on your right located at 480 Rathburn Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3S8, Canada and Church of Christ the King on your right located at 475 Rathburn Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3S9, Canada, and some others as well. Continuing driving, you’ll reach Scotiabank on your left at Scotiabank, 475 Renforth Dr, Etobicoke, ON M9C 2N3, Canada.
For the next part of the journey, continue west via the same Rathburn Rd and shortly you’ll start to see the park. On your right you’ll see the Seneca School as the first building within the park located at 580 Rathburn Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3T3, Canada. Right after it, also on your right, you’ll see the Etobicoke Olympium recreation center at 590 Rathburn Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3T3, Canada. A few hundred meters more, and you’ll reach a crossing. Turn right, drive for another 100 meters and you’ll reach your destination, the Centennial Park Conservatory located at 151 Elmcrest Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3S2, Canada.
